The "F" Word: Fiber!

Pregnancy comes with so many beautiful sensations, like feeling the baby kick, hormone highs, great skin and hair. And some not so great ones, like constipation. Let’s be real, it’s not that glamorous to talk about moving your bowels, but you will feel so much better and know your body is in better shape if you keep yourself going at a steady rate.


The good news is that yoga is a great remedy! Our active practices at East Side Yoga will get you moving in more ways than one. Some poses in particular, like squats, can be really effective.


We’ve already talked to you about how important drinking water is for keeping yourself hydrated, preventing fatigue and Braxton Hicks contractions. But drinking water is one of the most important things you can do to prevent constipation as well. No amount of water is too much, especially in DC in August! Fruit juice without added sugar can also help.


And lastly, eat your fiber. Basically, all those foods you know you should be eating already, like whole grains, leafy greens, and beans, will keep your diet packed with the fiber you need to feel better. A fiber packed breakfast, like oatmeal with fresh fruit and some added flaxseed will help start your morning off right and leave you feeling better throughout the day.
