I've been hearing from a lot of my prenatal mamas about how hot it is, and how sluggish they feel. It's been ridiculously hot so far this summer, and while dehydration isn't good for our bodies in regular life, it's even more troublesome during pregnancy.
Dehydration is when your body loses water faster than you are taking it in.
If you are pregnant and dehydrated, your body can actually overheat, which means baby is also overheating, and that's not a good thing. Severe dehydration can even cause premature contractions/labor.
TIP #1: If you find that you've been really active all day and having some Braxton-Hicks contractions (irregular contractions), drink a glass of water, lie down on your left side, and rest for a bit; that should help regulate your body temperature and ease the contractions away.
TIP #2: If you are exercising (including coming to Prenatal Yoga at East Side Yoga!), make sure to bring a bottle of water with you. Also, check the color of your urine; generally, the lighter the color, the more hydrated you are.
I know that drinking lots of water means you'll be heading to the restroom even MORE often than you already do, but just know that it's for a good cause - keeping you and baby healthy! :-)
